Last night I completed Day 1 of Beachbody's newest program, Barre Blend! The workout was just over 30 minutes. Required equipment included a mat, a chair or sturdy surface about hip height (my kitchen counter top) and a set of 1-5 lb hand weights.

I'm especially excited for this program because my 14-year old daughter will be joining me. This is her first Beachbody program.

The video below is my very first YouTube video! I start off with a brief introduction and then a post-workout review. Since I'm new to this, please be kind :) Please like and subscribe as I will be continuing to post my workout review over the next 8 weeks.

At the start of every workout, Elise will draw a card from the "I AM" daily motivation cards. Today's card said "I AM READY". The daily motivation cards are meant to set the stage for the next 30 minutes. This particular one was especially meaningful, given that it was day 1.

We start off with our warm up. Having completed the sample workout, as well as the two prep workouts, the warm up was very familiar. It's intended to get the blood moving and stretch out the muscles you'll be working for the day.

After the warm up, we completed a series of full body movements. We hit the quads, shoulders, booty, core and probably a few more muscle groups I didn't even realize I had. Beware of the BURN ZONE! When Elise says these words, prepare for a little treat *sarcasm*, but just when you think you're going to cry, it'll be over. When we are in the burn zone, we are holding a move with tiny little pulses to get that extra burn!

Barre Blend is adaptable to a variety of fitness levels. There's a modifier available for those that need a lower impact option or for those with less flexibility. There's a middle option, and then there's a few "intensifiers" if you really want to bump it up. The intensifier will take those lower impact moves and show you options that are higher-impact, plyometric based for a bigger burn!

After the main workout is complete, we spend a few minutes doing a cool down and stretch. The cool down is ballet inspired, and I've been learning some new ballet based terminology. If you're new to Barre or ballet, the program comes with some educational videos to help you get up to speed, but they certainly aren't required as you can easily follow along with the video to see what they are doing.

My Apple Watch said I burned 188 active calories in 34 minutes. I played it safe and stuck with the middle option. I'd like to complete a full week before I decide if I'd like to "intensify". I used 3-lb weights today. My daughter used the 1-lb weights.

Tomorrow's workout is Booty Blend. I'm a bit concerned, as I thought we already worked our booty today! Stay tuned for my post on that workout tomorrow!
