Barre Blend Day 3: Cardio Blend

When I woke up on Wednesday, I knew that it was going to be a long day. My daughter starts her basketball season tonight. Since we live in a small town, her practice is a 30-minute drive from my house and starts at 7pm. If you've read my first post, you'll know that I work an hour away from my house. This means that when I leave at 5:00pm, get picked up by hubby at 5:15pm (we carpool), and get home just before 6:30pm, just to immediately leave for her 2-hour practice. Knowing that Shae wouldn't be joining me for today's workout, I had two options: first, I could attempt a 5:30am workout or I could try to fit it in to my lunch hour and work out in my office. You'll notice that I didn't say "skipping my workout" was an option. At this point, skipping was not an option for me. While I love the flexibility of Beachbody on Demand programs, and I know that there will be times that I need that flexibility, it didn't seem like I needed to pull that card today.

If you've already watched the YouTube review, you'll notice that my review and workout took place in my office, so that means on Wednesday morning, I opted for the snooze button! I'm looking forward to my Energize (pre-workout) to arrive in the mail tomorrow, as that could be a game changer for my Wednesday workouts.

Ok, on to my Cardio Blend review. Today's motivation was "I am ambitious". This seemed appropriate considering it felt a bit ambitious to squeeze my workout in a one hour lunch, between meetings, and to try to not look like a train wreck for the remainder of the work day.

Elise took us through some similar moves that we've experienced in the previous workouts, but the difference being that we jumped right in to doing them at tempo as opposed to building up to that point. We were upright for the majority of the workout, but towards the end we added a booty sequence while laying on the ground. Today I decided to use my 2lb weights as I had really started to feel this week's work in my shoulders and since it was supposed to be a "cardio" day, I thought I could use a small break. Like the other days, it was a nice full body workout with a touch of 90's aerobics moves. Sometimes when I'm watching Barre Blend, I reminisce about the days my mom used to do her Kathy Smith workouts at home. I wonder if when my kiddos grow up, they'll remember the times I spent working out at home and whether or not that will influence how they adopt a health and fitness routine when they grow up.

At the end of this 35 minute workout, I burned 258 calories. I felt like I was able to put myself back together pretty well for the meetings I had to finish out the work day. Thank goodness for things like dry shampoo, shower wipes and facial towelettes. This wasn't the first time I've worked out at lunch, in fact I did most of Core de Force from my office, so I've managed to get pretty good at the quick change routine. The only thing I can't hide so well is the red face I get, but that typically subsides within 20 minutes.

Two more workouts left in the week before moving to Week 2. Tomorrow is Core Blend. While I'm writing this post in hindsight, I can tell you that when I saw that in the schedule, I was looking forward to the "lighter" workout day. Keep reading to see how that one went...

Cheers!
