If you're reading this after watching my video review, and after reading my Day 3 review, you'll know now that I feel a bit silly for thinking that core day was going to more of an "active recovery" day. In other Beachbody programs I've done, I've generally been able to add the core workout on to one of the other workouts as a double, or just do them alone. This is the first time I've completed a workout labeled as a "core" workout, and burned 213 calories in this 33 minute workout.
Before I get in to more of the review, you'll see in my review intro that I received my Barre Blend Challenge Pack in the mail today! This included the Daily Motivation Cards that Elise uses in Barre Blend, a printed version of the get started guide and calendar for Barre Blend, and most importantly, my 30-day supply of Shakeology (vegan chocolate) with the signature Shakeology blender bottle-- perfect for those social media posts. I also decided to add on Beachbody's pre-workout supplement, Energize. I have more to say about Energize during my Barre Blend Day 5 review as that was the first day I gave it a try. I felt like a kid on Christmas Day opening my Beachbody package and I can't wait to start using products.
On to "core" day. I put "core" in quotes, because that certainly isn't the only thing we worked on today, and I'm realizing that I'll be working a little bit of everything, every day. Today's warm up started off with some familiar moves, but we jumped right in to some plank work. This is where I thought we'd be spending the rest of the workout on the mat, but that was short lived before we were up and moving and working those quads and shoulders. Then we went back to the mat for some Pilates-inspired moves such as "the hundred" and a few more mat based core moves. Then back up for our Barre sequences to work the booty as well as some upper body and cardio. We did finish off on the mat with some additional core work before reaching the cool down. I was using the 3lb weights for the start of the workout when we were working the upper body, but eventually made my way to no weights for some of the final mat-based core moves.
If you've watched the video review, you'll also notice that we had some special guests join in for the program. Alice, my German Shepherd loves to come and keep us company when we are laying on our mats, but the part that made me laugh about the time lapse video was watching my 15-year old mini-dachshund, Frank, circle around us for the last third of our workout. My poor Frank is basically blind and deaf. When he isn't eating or sleeping, he wanders around aimlessly like a senile old man. It was both sad and funny to watch him circle around us during the workout.
The last workout for the week is Lean Legs Blend. Truth be told, I'm a little nervous about it as my legs are already feeling pretty fried, so I can't imagine a workout especially catered to legs. I see some foam rolling and epsom salt baths in my future!
Cheers!
